Rocky Bluff Recreation Area
Located in the Pisgah National Forest, Appalachian Ranger District. Just 3 miles south of Hot Springs, NC on Hwy. 209, aka the Rattler. Situated in the mountains of Western North Carolina. Rocky Bluff is a beautiful park like setting with stunning stonework defining each campsite. There are 17 available campsites on a first come first serve basis. The park has two amazi
ng trails that start and end in the campground. Spring Creek Trail at 1.2 miles long is the easier of the two. This trail leads you down to Spring Creek and follows the creek for approximately 3/4 of a mile with various points to access the creek to fish or just relax and cool off. The Vann Cliff trail at 2.6 miles is a loop trail that is steeper and more rugged. It crosses Hwy. 209 at 2 points and climbs the ridge line to the Southwest of the campground. The trail leads you through many different habitats including swampy creek beds and mature hardwood forests. Farmed by the Brooks Family until 1935 when they sold the property to the National Forest Preservation Commission. The family cemetery plot still stands today as a reminder of the spirit of the early settlers of this area. The National Forest Service opened Rocky Bluff Recreation Area in the mid 60's with a total of 30 campsites, a day use area, the two trails and an amphitheater. Due to budget cuts the upper loop is closed and the amphitheater has been left to natures way. The administrators of this page will be posting pictures and stories of the park and surrounding area.
