This is an update on Chris.
A note of positivity from Chris and Diane.
Today was the 404th day since Chris was diagnosed with stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer with mets to his liver, gallbladder, bones, Lymph nodes,and pelvis.
I couldn't have ever imagined that I would still have him sitting next to me, a year ago.
His true prognosis was anywhere from 3 to 8 months. He never knew that until he lived past those milestones. I knew it but he did not, because he never looked it up.
Our sweet little Doctor Saba did not give him a prognosis, and I will always be grateful for that.
She is the one that sent us to our new oncologist.
Dr. Saba will always be such a precious part of our life. She got us to this point.
We went to his new trial oncologist office, for his 18th day check up after starting the miracle drug Daraxonrasib. Aka Dragon Slayer Aka DS
His Doctor, Dr. Grierson from Siteman Cancer Center in St.Louis, is thrilled with Chris's progress and his lack of side effects.
He is so positive. He told us that they have started using Dragon Slayer on colon cancer too.
Here is how he explained how DS works.
The first thing to know is that it is a targeted drug.
This is the way he broke it down for us.
He said that chemo is like grenades.
Dragon Slayer is a Sniper.🤯
If cancer is in his foot it is going to go there and kill it.
(No, this does not mean that Chris will be cured.) This means that, DS will not allow it to spread.
It will potentially stop working in about 8 months. But at that time there will either be a add on drug or a new drug altogether.
POSITIVE THINKING.
We feel blessed in a very bizarre way, that he has stage 4 pancreatic.
If he hadn't been stage 4 he could not have gotten into this study.
By the way he got into the study 1 day before FDA approval. His drugs are free for 2 months.
We were meant to be able to be a part of this pioneer treatment the DRAGON SLAYER.
In years to come, this drug will continue to improve. We will see a time where there will be no rashes, or mouth sores. God willing, maybe no more chemo infusion centers.
His side effects after 17 doses are as follows:
(1.) He was tired for the 1st 2 days on DS.
He just went with it. He rested when he needed to.
(Then, he found out that a squirrel had gotten in the eves of our bnb. His rest was done. 😉) He sealed it up tighter than Fort Knox.
(2.) Diarrhea was unpredictable for that 1st 2 weeks, till about 11:00 am.
We managed this by not leaving the house till after noon. He never had to take more than 3 imodium in a day. We also installed bidets to all of our toilets. Honestly this made great sense. They are true comfort care. 😉 They are simple to install. They cost about $40.00 on Amazon. ( We are also set if there is another toilet paper shortage. ) Win Win.😁
(3.) The rash started around day 13. It is on the tip of his nose, but it is very slight.
His chest looks a little like he has a very mild case of Chicken Pox.
He takes all of the preemptive meds he was given, religiously. Oral rinses, and lozenges 3 times daily. He doesn't have any side effects in his mouth at this time. 🤗
Life is so bizarre. He has gotten all of his taste back. That means that I have to go back to being a serious cook again yay. 👩🏻🍳 (I do love cooking.)
The weird banding inside of his lips is gone now.
His Neuropathy is gone, except for a little sand feeling in his right foot sometimes. He says he can live with that.
His hair looks like he has a close haircut now.
His hair was a beautiful silver before and now there are areas in the front that appear black next to the scalp.
Maybe he is going look like the guy off of The Sopranos or maybe like Pepe' Le Pew.🤣
We are truly blessed.
