Saturday, 8:14pm. Backyard in Alief. The BLX288/PG58 pair is passing between four cousins, uncles pretending they don't want a turn, one aunt already on her second song.

The setup tonight: one Idolmain IP-5900 amp on the folding table, two ImPro VS-1600K speakers on stands, HDMI running from the Samsung TV in the living room out through the sliding door via an ImPro ACE. Total spend over the last four years, one piece at a time: about $3,400.

Nobody asked how much it cost tonight. Nobody asked about specs. Bác Tư sang 'Đêm Buồn Tỉnh Lẻ' twice, once in Vietnamese, once making up the English. That is the whole point of a karaoke system.

The call came in Monday morning, verbatim. Mom in Katy: 'Anh, my daughter is starting 7th grade tomorrow, she is nervous. Can we come pick up one small karaoke thing after school so she has something fun to come home to?'

They walked in at 4:30pm. We put the K-12 portable on the counter. White cube speaker, two little wireless mics that live in the base, colorful lights around the grill. $15. It fits in a backpack.

The daughter picked it up, tried the mic, one nervous laugh. Mom paid. They were out the door in 11 minutes.

Tuesday, 8:04pm. Backyard in Sugar Land. September, and the mosquitoes finally quit for the night.

One JBL PartyBox 330 on the patio table, beat-synced lights doing their thing on the fence, 18 hours of playtime on the battery so nobody is hunting an extension cord. Two little cousins are refusing to give up the wireless mic pair that came with the setup, and bác Hùng is queuing up 'Vọng Kim Lang' for the third time.

School starts next week. This is the last weeknight the driveway sings before homework season.

August at the shop, tallied honestly. The calls we fielded most this month, in order:

1. 'anh, my new Samsung has no red/white plug, what do I do?' The ImPro ACE HDMI extractor, $49. Fielded 47 times.
2. 'Is this SM58 from marketplace real?' We opened four this month. Three fake. Come by, we'll test yours free.
3. 'What mic setup for a 200-guest Vietnamese wedding?' BLX288/PG58 pair plus a wired SM58 as backup, every time.
4. 'IP-6800 or PMA-6800?' If your speakers are 800W, PMA. If they're 1600W and you host, IP-6800.
5. 'Can I rent for one weekend?' Yes. We have the Party Pack and the Monster Party Pack for rental.

The one amp we sell to the customer who says 'anh, I don't want to buy six boxes, I just want to sing tonight.'

ImPro MA-8MKII. 1800 watts. Mixer, equalizer, feedback reducer, and two wireless mics already inside the box. One power cable, two speaker cables, plug in your TV over HDMI, sing.

Honest limits: the built-in wireless mics are good. If you already own Shure or Sennheiser handhelds, keep them and plug into the mic inputs in the rear. But for a family who wants karaoke on Saturday and does not want to learn what an XLR or 1/4" is, this is the answer. $1199 in the store, ships free over $100.

um so chat i just did my cousin's wedding karaoke setup and everyone is STILL texting me about it. the venue guy says "if the mic cuts out ONE time during the toasts i'm never booking this dj again". pause. "if the speakers feed back i'm walking out". there's panic in the gc. screaming. crying. throwing up. but me? calm. been using mega karaoke dj center gear for like 6 months and never had a single dead mic or blown speaker. SO chat do i tell everyone the setup or do i gatekeep??
