Though we are closed for the season, the work never stops at Rustic Superior. Ranger Mike (left) and State of MN biologist Dr. Nelson work through the grounds during our winter wildlife assessment. Tracks have indicated a lot of visitors since our last snowfall -- deer, moose, wolves, bear, beavers, bobcats and panthers. Dr. Nelson called Rustic Superior an amazing specimen of true wilderness. The Farquhar cliff range goes through Rustic Superior. This is the view from the upper ponds facing the cliffs when the fog rolls in from Lake Superior. The range holds the mist until it condensates, which keeps Rustic Superior pleasantly cool throughout the summer.

Spring Flora & Fauna Assessments are complete. Animals sighted include black bear, lynx, white-tailed deer, beaver, and an abundance of grouse. A complete moose skull was found, as well as wolf s**t. Wild strawberries, blueberries and gooseberries are growing nicely. The biggest surprise was the return of yellow morels.
