The stunt involved Cruise jumping from a helicopter at roughly 7,500 feet with a parachute that had been soaked in fuel and deliberately set on fire. After the parachute burned, Cruise cut it away and deployed a second parachute before safely landing. He repeated the stunt 16 times during filming in South Africa.

Cruise has become known for performing many of his own action sequences, but the burning parachute stunt pushed that commitment to another level. Instead of relying entirely on visual effects, the production captured the actor performing an extremely demanding sequence repeatedly for the film.

The achievement was officially verified by Guinness World Records on June 4, 2025, adding another remarkable milestone to Cruise’s long history of ambitious movie stunts.
