Zion is free today.
October 27 is Theodore Roosevelt's birthday, and the National Park Service waives entrance fees for the day. No $35 at the gate.
A few things worth knowing before you go:
Free entry is for U.S. citizens and residents this year. Bring an ID.
It covers the entrance fee only. Angels Landing permits, camping, and tours are still paid.
Tuesday in late October is the sweet spot. Cool mornings, golden cottonwoods in the canyon, and nothing like the summer lines.
The shuttle is still running, so park early at the visitor center and let it do the driving.
Roosevelt is the reason places like this are still here. Not a bad excuse to spend a day in the canyon.
