Tonight in partnership with the JFK Museum of Hyannis, HI Hyannis hosted iconic photographer Rowland Scherman. Rowland was the first photographer of the Peace Corps and one of the premier photographers of the Civil Rights movement. Many of his photos are in the National Archive. He showed us his photos and also talked about why he got involved with photography to begin with: peace.

Earlier this week, HI USA's second YOUTH Travel Scholarship group visited HI Hyannis for several days of service and fun in the sun. The Boston Centers for Youth & Families brought members of their Youth Advisory Council to Hyannis. The group is comprised of youth leaders hailing from different neighborhoods of Boston looking to advocate for fellow youth in Boston. They volunteered with the Town of Barnstable and the Salvation Army, and also spent an evening at the JFK Museum in Hyannis watching a documentary about 60s photography. The group also of course headed to the beach on pedicab, cooked taco dinners, enjoyed marshmallow roasts, games of co****le and everything else the Hyannis Hostel has to offer. They'll be sharing their stories on their website soon!

Last week, our first YOUTH Travel Scholarship group, The DREAM, had the opportunity to visit Martha's Vineyard for three days. Each year, Hostelling International selects a number of scholarshipgroups to go to our Cape & Island Hostels for free. This specific group had the chance to learn more about sustainability and conservation on Martha's Vineyard, working with The Farm Institute, The Trustees of Reservations and The Appalachian Mountain Club. It was a great experience all around!
