The Brogan House
This house was built in 1902 by Rupert Thorne’s father. In 1925 Kitty Brogan’s husband was killed in an accident in Placerville and she and her five children moved from Placerville to Idaho City. She rented the house for 10 years before purchasing it. She became the Boise County Clerk and served in this capacity until she retired. After her death, her son John Brogan lived in the house until his death in 1990. The house was sold by the family and was a shop for several years before it became a rental. The house was purchased in 2014 with the express idea of restoration as the years of being a rental had taken a toll. It has been insulated, the knob and spool wiring has been replaced and all the wood work has been refinished. The dining room furniture, the loveseat and the pictures of Idaho City were in the house when Kitty and John Brogan lived here and were given to the current owner by the Brogan family. DeAnna Root of St Luke’s Hospice has established a Memory Garden in one corner of the yard for Boise County hospice patients in their care who have passed.
