Crooked Fire Update August 21, 2026 per USDA Forest Service
Firefighters continued to battle the 1038 acre Crooked Fire, located 14 mi. NE of Idaho City. The fire is being fought with a full suppression strategy with public and firefighter safety being the highest priority.
The fire continues to burn in a steep, rocky and heavily forested area. Rollout of burning debris, rocks and falling hazard trees are a constant challenge. Throughout the day crews continued to construct control lines around the fire and utilized existing road systems when able. They are being heavily supported by multiple aircraft including a constant assortment of large air tankers and heavy helicopters.
Idaho Team 1 a Type 3 Incident Management Team (IMT) has been ordered and will take over the fire at 0600 tomorrow morning.
