☀️ Did you know that the California Poppy (Eschscholzia californica) grows in ?

The California poppy is not only the state flower, but is native to North America’s Pacific slope.
Named by a naturalist (Adelbert von Chamisso ) in 1816 aboard the Russian ship "Rurick” in honor of the ship’s surgeon/entomologist, J. F. Eschscholtz, Chamisso coined the wild flower “Eschscholzia californica”(although he accidentally left the “t” out of Eschscholtz).

California’s bright and beautiful state flower grows wild and prefers to stay that way! The petals close at night and on cloudy days and fall off if picked.
