I shared this on my Chic. Market and Events page a little bit ago as an introduction. I decided to share it here as well 😊
A good friend once introduced me by saying, “This is Lori. She made all of the food. She’s a head banging Martha Stewart, you could say...”
It’s a great way to summarize a little bit of who I am and why I opened Chic Market & Events (formerly called Chic Antiques) ⤵️
Give me any scenario, and I have probably lived it.
I married at the age of 20 & had my first son at 21.
I have been divorced & remarried…a single, working mom and a stay-at-home mom too.
People are always surprised to learn that I was an insurance adjuster for almost 20 years.
I worked 60-hour work weeks for someone else while trying to raise a family by myself.
I always loved to decorate!
I would craft things like wreaths & sell them to my coworkers. Friends would always come to me for help decorating their homes as well.
I have always loved “old stuff” too!
My style comes from mixing the pieces that have charm and character (the “old stuff”) with modern decor. It just makes me happy to be in a space that I love looking at.
I loved going to antique malls, and I would look at the booths thinking, “I could do this!”
So I did!
I started out by selling painted furniture on Craig’s list and building an email list to share upcoming sales at my house.
When I was laid off from my last insurance gig, it was a true blessing in disguise.
A few friends encouraged me to open my own shop…
Now, I get to work 150-hour work weeks for myself 🤪 I really can’t imagine life any other way though!
Adding The Grainery to the mix as a photo venue has been so much fun! It’s such an amazing building with so many unique photo ops.
Setting up the vignettes is just one more excuse for me to decorate 😉
🏡 Oxford, MI is home, but my store is in the small town of 📍Almont. We fondly refer to our building as “The Mill.”
We love being part of the Almont community AND the Imlay City community
It’s not overcrowded yet, and I love the fresh produce this time of year from the local farms. There are so many like minded people there, too, who appreciate organic and homegrown.
When I’m not busy with the market, you might find me in the kitchen 🍝 at a rock-n-roll concert 🎶 on a rollercoaster 🎢 or at a museum!
I love to try new recipes, and rarely follow any exactly. My very favorite thing to cook is Thanksgiving dinner.
We also love to see the tribute bands! 🎸
The AC/DC and Bob Seger tributes have been awesome! 🎶
The Millennium Force and Steel Vengeance at Cedar Point are my two favorite coasters 🎢
Visiting quaint, small towns with unique shops and fun restaurants with my husband, Howard, is high on my list of favorite things to do.
Mackinac Island is one of my happy places and one of my favorite movies is “Somewhere in Time,” which was filmed there.
I’d love your input 💜. I’m pretty new in this particular endeavor and I want to make this venue the best I can for you.
Happy New Year! I look forward to hearing from you and working with you in 2025
