Holed up!

Lately, our park staff are seeing an increased amount of large dug-out holes on our recreational beaches. Yes, it is fun to dig through the sand. Rangers even do this to show visitors the different layers of sand or to find mole crabs. With that said, holes can provide a hazard.

Some park employees must drive on the beach to perform their job and provide for visitor and resource safety. Holes are not easily spotted, especially at night, and can cause significant vehicle damage if driven over, possibly leading to bodily injury. The same goes for beachgoers, as these holes can be tripped over if they are not paying attention, which can easily lead to significant injuries. Horses could even get hurt if they run on the beach and unexpectedly step into a giant hole.

Tidewaters do not always reach all parts of the beach to fill them in, so if you dig a hole, fill it in!

When you decide to pull all of your beach supplies out of the closet to paint it. This is all the stuff you don’t have to pack when renting at Pine Knoll. Toys, boogie boards, chairs, umbrellas, kites, floaties, buckets…😎😎
