Happy , campers!

This week, we're heading to the Hoosier State’s Land of 101 Lakes. This campground is a lakeside retreat, perfectly positioned off the longest road in the U.S. This is year-round camping at its finest, whether you're here to stay or just passing through.

The amenities list at this campground is long. Like, really long. We're talking four playgrounds, co****le, volleyball, and basketball. A pristine private sandy beach. A dock for fishing and boating. While KOAs offer a consistent basecamp across North America, the landscapes surrounding them are entirely unique. Take, for instance, our northernmost and southernmost campgrounds.

Up near the Arctic Circle, Fairbanks / Chena River KOA in North Pole, Alaska, sits right along the Chena River. It’s the ultimate basecamp for spotting moose and eagles, exploring the tundra, and witnessing the breathtaking Aurora Borealis.

Here's a good one: bighorn sheep were wiped out from this part of South Dakota and didn't return until reintroduction efforts began in the 1960s. Today they're doing well, especially along the steeper, rockier terrain in the park. 🐏 We can't promise a sighting, but if you're scanning ridgelines, that's where to look.

It's time for , campers!

Combine prehistoric finds with all the benefits of modern camping at this week's KOA. Strategically located near Route 191, this campground is the perfect pit stop for Western road trippers.

The campground's variety of RV sites accommodates everyone, from the van lifers to the motorhome enthusiasts. Choose from pull-thru, back-in, or KOA Patio sites and spend less time setting up and more time relaxing. No RV? No problem. Stay in a ultra-comfy Deluxe Cabin or a classic tent site.

The area is known for its abundance of dino finds. Under 20 miles away is Dinosaur National Monument, where you can see over 1,500 fossils on exposed cliff face. Other state parks in the area provide boating and fishing with views of dinosaur tracks along the way. After you've channeled your inner paleontologist, camp is a welcome respite. Challenge your fellow campers to a game of horseshoes or giant jenga, cool off in the pool, or take in a movie under the stars.

A little geology for your Thursday: those striped layers in the Badlands formations are different bands of sediment, deposited between roughly 75 million and 28 million years ago according to the National Park Service. And here's the wild part...NPS says the formations erode at about one inch per year, which is fast for rock. That means this landscape is actively changing, and eventually eroding itself away entirely. 🎨

It's National Fossil Day, and honestly, the Badlands might be one of the best places in the country to celebrate it. This area is one of the richest fossil beds in the world, with ancient camels, three-toed horses, and rhinoceroses all found in these layers.

If you're ever in the park, the Fossil Exhibit Trail is a short, fully accessible boardwalk loaded with fossil replicas and info — no hiking boots needed. 🦴

Tomorrow, October 12th, we close up for the 2026 season...which means for a lot of our guests, tonight is the last campfire of the year with us. Thank you for spending part of your summer and fall here. It's been a genuinely great season, and we can't wait to do it again starting April 24, 2027. 🥹

Fun fact: Badlands National Park is an officially certified Dark Sky Park...one of the best places in the country to see the night sky the way it's supposed to look. With the days getting shorter, fall is actually one of the best times to catch a truly dark sky here.
