Last Saturday, our ballroom was filled with celebration as we hosted Iowa City Liberty High School’s prom 🪩🕺🏻✨

Since the 1970s, this space has been home to so many unforgettable events. From the energy on the dance floor to the memories being made, it was a night to remember at The Highlander.

Happy Earth Day! At The Highlander Hotel, we’re not just a regular hotel; we’re a green, eco-conscious oasis. As the saying goes “There’s no greener building than one that’s already built” and we’re proud of our flower power! A few eco fun facts about us include:

💡 Our renovation project was a giant 100ksf recycling and upcycling effort, saving an estimated 50%-70% in energy compared to new construction.
🧼 Instead of itsy-bitsy plastic travel size shampoo and soap, The Highlander Hotel uses bulk containers filled with organic Paya bath products.
🪞 All of the guest room full-length mirror used to be old closet slider doors. We recycled them instead of sending them to the landfill.
🌱 By renovating instead of tearing down to build new, we saved a whopping 600,000 ish tons of waste from going to the landfill!
🪑 The poolside chairs are from a sustainable company named Masaya, quickly becoming the first fully sustainable furniture brand that actually grows forrests.

The hippies at The Highlander work hard to make sure your staycation has a low carbon footprint. Happy Earth Day! ♻️ 🌸 ✌️
