Our hearts are broken with the unexpected loss of Rick. He is with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Rick grew up on this farm as the youngest Swanson brother and was part of the soul of this place. He was the heartbeat of the On The Point kitchen.

He was dedicated. The first one in the kitchen each morning, baking pies and cookies, making Sunday doughnuts, preparing meals, sharing stories, and making everyone feel welcome. His recipes filled our tables and tummies.

Hunters arrived as guests and left feeling like family because of him. He had a gift for bringing people together, whether around a meal, a cup of coffee, or one of his stories.

The kitchen will be quieter now. The lodge won’t feel quite the same. But his spirit will live on in every recipe, every story retold, and every memory made around the tables where he served so many with joy.

We miss him deeply and will remember him always.

Rest easy, Uncle Rick. Thank you for every meal, every story, and every moment. 💔

Just got this from a good friend. Pretty cool. Enjoy your day our hunting fathers

Today, we planted 6 Fall Fiesta sugar maple trees in honor of our parents Harris & Sharron, Uncle Jack & Aunt Diane who had the vision and were founders of On The Point in the 90’s. We also planted two trees for Uncle Rick and Aunt Veronica for all of their hard work and passion for OTP to make sure guests are happy feel like family and are well-fed. Jack, Harris and Rick grew up on this farm as brothers and our roots are grounded in them who helped shaped us.

Come fall, the trees will turn brilliant shades of orange and red, right as our hunters arrive. A quiet reminder that this place, these traditions, and this season are all connected—past, present, and the stories still being written. 🍁

Also, we have probably no less than 50 deer right in the yard every night… will need higher fences tomorrow.🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

Beautiful things aren’t always planted. These wild pasque flowers grow every spring in the virgin soil within the prairie grass. The flower is a symbol for South Dakota and represents the fortitude and resilience of the people who live here. Also, the hope & renewal in the spring. Delicate+hardy +tenacious= the pasque flower. Another display of God‘s perfect creation in nature.
