“This Derby season, my wife and I opted to bid the city of Louisville a fond farewell for the weekend.
We traveled out to Estill County, Kentucky, drove up a holler and stayed at Snug Hollow Bed and Breakfast. Snug Hollow is one of the most magical places I’ve stayed in Kentucky, hands down. My sincere thanks and gratitude to the Snug Hollow team for their stewardship of the land and the conservation of a truly special place.
Our weekend was full of wandering along trails, admiring a pileated woodpecker, petting dogs (Kasper and Scout), sitting on a porch and eating some of the best damn food I’ve ever had the pleasure of shoveling down my gullet. I nearly cried while eating eggplant parmesan.
At Snug Hollow, you come for the views but stay for the food; really you have no choice because you’ll be too full to move. The meals are locally sourced and many recipes come from Barbara Napier, the original owner.
I remarked to my wife how a good, thoughtful meal is often the first thing to go in our busy lives. When was the last time you felt a meal truly nourished you in body and soul? If I had to guess, it’s probably been a while–too busy aren’t you? Well make some time for yourself or, better yet, head out to Snug Hollow; you won’t regret it.”
