On Memorial Day, we proudly display our historic 45-star American flag, which became official on July 4, 1896, following Utah’s admission as the 45th state. It flew through a transformative chapter of American history and remains a powerful symbol of our nation’s enduring spirit.

Though no longer the official flag, the 45-star flag may still be flown by tradition. At Hope & Glory, we reserve its display for a select few occasions of national remembrance and reflection, including Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day weekend, and Veterans Day. The rest of the year, it remains carefully protected.

Today, it waves once more in honor of the men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. May we pause to remember their sacrifice, reflect on the freedoms they helped secure, and carry their legacy forward.

You know how you can tell summer is on the way?

Here’s a hint: 🦀

Chef Stuart Tyson is debuting a holiday weekend special that feels like the unofficial start of the season here in Coastal Virginia. Local soft shell crabs are one of those fleeting tastes of summer we wait for all year long, right alongside longer days, warm breezes off the water, and evenings spent outdoors with a glass in hand.

Join us this Memorial Day weekend for our Soft Shell Crab Sandwich or Soft Shell Crab Pickin’s — four soft shell crab halves served with our Chesapeake remoulade.

It’s how we eat ’em on the Northern Neck.

Available this weekend only at The Dog & Oyster while supplies last.

Weekend Hours:
Friday: 2–6 PM
Saturday: 12–6 PM
Sunday: 12–5 PM

Behind the scenes in the micro-vineyard.

Last week, we welcomed back Zach Pierce of Ingleside Vineyards to help replace and replant some of the poorer performing Petit Manseng vines in our micro-vineyard.

Our micro-vineyard is planted entirely with Petit Manseng, the very grape that will one day become part of a future Oyster White blend—giving guests a true taste of what’s growing here.

Together, our wines are a celebration of the Northern Neck George Washington Birthplace American Viticultural Area—a historic wine region shaped by the same waterways, winds, and coastal climate that also help make this part of the Commonwealth the oyster capital of the East Coast.

Ingleside Vineyards has been one of our closest friends and partners in wine for more than twenty years, and it’s always meaningful to continue growing—quite literally—together.

25 Years, 25% Off Lodging — Celebrate May at the legendary Hope & Glory Inn ✨

There are places you visit… and places you return to.

For 25 years, The Hope & Glory Inn has been a place where stories are written (literally in the Detention lounge) — birthdays and anniversaries celebrated, weekends lingered over, and memories made that seem to stay with you long after you’ve left Irvington.

This May, we invite you back to relive those moments—or create entirely new ones—as we celebrate our 25th Anniversary with a special offer:

Enjoy 25% off when you book two or more nights for stays throughout May at one of TripSavvy’s “Top 7 Chesapeake Bay Hotels,” also recognized as the publication’s “Best for Foodies.”

Escape the ordinary. Stay at the extraordinary.

It’s the perfect excuse to slow down, settle in, and experience the Inn as it comes alive in spring.

25% off applies to new reservations only for stays during May 2026 and requires a minimum two-night stay. Offer is applied automatically to online reservations and does not apply to existing reservations or Memorial Day weekend. Discount applies to lodging only. From now through December 31, 2026, one-night stays are available Sunday–Thursday at the Best Available Rate; Friday and Saturday stays require a two-night minimum.

We are ideally located on the Northern Neck of Chesapeake Bay.  A short 75 minutes from Richmond, 2 hours from Virginia Beach, and just 3 hours from the Washington D.C. Metro area.

The stage is set.

Join us this weekend at the Dog & Oyster Micro-Vineyard & Oyster Bar at The Hope & Glory Inn for the Chesapeake Bay Wine Trails Spring Oyster Crawl—your invitation to explore coastal wine country and celebrate the timeless pairing of wine and oysters.

We’re kicking off the season with Oyster Chef Stuart Tyson’s all-new menus, crafted to pair perfectly with our Virginia wines. From our Bloody Mary Oyster Shooter to Champagne & Oyster and more, it’s everything you love about the Bay, all in one place.

Friday offers a quieter start to the weekend—an opportunity to settle in before the Oyster Crawl begins in full on Saturday.

For over 16 years, we’ve been refining the art of pairing oysters with wines made specifically for them. And it all begins here—at our micro-vineyard in the Northern Neck, part of the federally recognized Northern Neck George Washington Birthplace AVA.

New menus.
New wines.
New libations.

Weekend Hours:
Friday: 2–6 PM
Saturday: 12–6 PM
Sunday: 12–5 PM

Cheers!
