To all residents of Isle of Palms, we hope you make an informed decision in your vote today. We have 150+ families that have owned on the IOP for years and will have no say in their own property rights today. They would love to be able to leave their most prized asset to their loved ones and their loved ones behind them. Please read the referendum, as there still tends to be a lot of misinformation out there. I will not get into city budgets, real estate values, and the neighborly divide a yes vote would cause. Just know there are 100’s of families, both residents and non-residents, that will not be able to pass on the ability to rent their vacation beach home on the Isle of Palms. If you are on the fence, I will send you the referendum for you to review. It is considerably flawed and those pushing it know this. Please VOTE NO today, so a fair and strategic plan can be put in place to better serve this beautiful island and ALL individuals that have chosen a spot here in paradise.

Friends, this is part of the language of the referendum to cap short term rentals on Isle of Palms. You will be voting on this referendum on November 7th.

What this means is that heirs who inherit rental property on the island will not be allowed to maintain their STR license unless they make the home their primary residence. They will also not be able to sell the home with the existing license because the referendum makes them non-transferable.

I cannot in good conscience vote for a referendum that would harm families like this. Please know what you are voting for before you choose on November 7th.
