ily - We are family-owned, designed for families to use as a vacation rental, and we also love to welcome families as Bed and Breakfast guests to visit this lovely area and/or their college students at Ithaca College and Cornell University. Celebration - Commencements, Family and class reunions, weddings (we don’t do them here, but Tenwood has been a special lodging experience for wedding families), landmark birthdays, all of these have happened at Tenwood as guests from recent months created priceless memories. Wood - We named our special family retreat Tenwood Lodge because we constructed it using 10 different locally growing species. They can be found on ceilings, windows and trim, floors, railings, decks, cabinetry, furniture, except one species, fir, is hidden behind the walls as it is used as a structural component. Black Iron Accents - Used in door handles, stair railing balusters, joist hangers of the beams in the dining room ceiling. Foodie Paradise - One family group referred to Tenwood as having a “killer kitchen”. Another has had 2 consecutive Thanksgivings here, cooking like crazy. Another group of college buddies reunited for a “Friendsgiving” and put on another feast. One ambitious woman hired a chef for her stay to feed her extended family delectable sit-down meals. Green/Environmentally Responsible - Passive solar design features, Solar Electric for over 12 years, super-insulated house design, utilize wood we harvest from our land as a heating source as much as possible, composting, gardening, many repurposed elements including our huge kitchen. Linked to Nature - All 4 porches have special views in addition lots of windows to look through during cooler days, watch the deer, rabbits and wild turkey share the property. Fabulous property - far from neighbors, our 150+ acres include lawn areas, working cropland, wildlife conservation land, a pond, a wooded hillside, some shady grass areas, occasional rainbows, spectacular sunrises and sunsets, little light pollution which gives us great stargazing. Retreat - Leave the hustle and bustle, we have a DVD-playing TV (but no reception to the outside world), good Verizon cell service, limited internet, fine for email, not for online video viewing. 70 F to 15 F in less than 18 hrs! Whoa--seems kinda like a roller coaster--Welcome to the Finger Lakes region of Central New York where *sometimes* the weatherman is correct! We're actually kinda happy because we do love snow, the electricity stayed on so we don't need to crank up the generator AND this crazy cold will recharge the Maple output! 50 gallons of great finished Maple Syrup and more to come!

WHY are we SO HAPPY to see frozen puddles and this low number this morning???!!!

Because we're hoping the Maple Harvest "reboots" from its lull this warm spring week, and this is how it works...

COLD nights & warm (not hot) days. Sap goes DOWN for cold nights and UP for warm days (and into our waiting lines and collection system). Looking for more Maple!!! Happy with the cold forecast too!

So Russ and I used to go on "cheap dates" for breakfast when our kids were little. We were awake in the morning and had some great conversations. Fast forward 20 years and we are B&B proprietors. We enjoy serving our guests great breakfasts, but it is rare that we actually go OUT for breakfast anymore, especially locally! HOWEVER, through a series of events, this morning we found ourselves at in the old Byrne Dairy building in Ithaca. Lovely place with a fun menu, great service and some nice decorating touches. Here's pictures of our Eggs Benedict and Western Omelet that we ordered. If you haven't been here yet, check it out! They do all day Breakfast and Lunch and generally close at 3:30 pm.
