Did you know the Newfield Covered Bridge is the only surviving covered bridge in the Finger Lakes — and it’s still open to traffic today? Built in 1853, this bright red landmark has stood for over 170 years and remains one of the most photographed spots in the region.

Taughannock Falls to be Illuminated: Some exciting news regarding one of the greatest waterfalls, not just in the Finger Lakes, but in America. Taughannock Falls will be illuminated to honor the 100th anniversary of the formation of the New York State Park System on, April 18, 19 and 20th in Trumansburg, NY. This event, co-hosted by the New York State Parks and the Tompkins Chamber and Visit Ithaca , will be viewable from the Taughannock Falls Overlook each evening between 8:30 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. This is a wonderful idea—would love to see them do this again later in the summer with foliage on the trees, would be even better in the fall season, too. Of all the cascades I visit and showcase here, 215-foot high Taughannock Falls is my very favorite!
