RiverWood Inn

RiverWood Inn Jackson's Newest Old Inn RiverWood is a Bed and Breakfast Inn located on over five acres of tended lawns, wild fields, and rolling woodlands.

In the heart of the White Mountains, just across the covered bridge in Jackson Village, you'll find RiverWood Inn - Jackson's newest old inn. With over 130 years of history, and after eight months of extensive renovations and re-decoration, we are pleased to offer an experience of understated elegance. Walk our trails down to the Wildcat River and take a dip in our swimming hole; or put your wader

s on and tempt the trout to take your fly in the riffles. Or just sit on our veranda’s JFK rockers and watch the small-town world of Jackson Village pass by. Soak up the rays while lounging poolside, or take shelter from a sun-shower in the gazebo .

Hello RiverWood followers!
We are pleased to announce that James and Susan are getting out of Dodge and have transitioned the RiverWood Inn to Brian and Diane. They are excited to be carrying on as innkeepers of the RiverWood Inn and welcome you all back. Please note that this page is going to be closed this month as it’s tied to my personal account. Brian and Diane have created a new page and invite you all to follow along and see what’s going on.

Just another morning in Jackson New Hampshire. A Mackerel (or is it, "An Orangy...") Sky glows over Thorn Mountain and our Public Library barn.

"Bears do it...."
Even our young local bear, “Juvie” – sporting a sleek camo “B"95 mask – is helping to flatten the curve here in Jackson.
Hopefully all will bear (ouch!) the burden of wearing one too!

We're Still Standing!

Despite virus, shutdown, and drought (the only thing we're missing are the locusts) we are OPEN. And speaking of still standing; on the 1937 map of Jackson, shown in yellow is our RiverWood Inn. Other inns and public buildings that are still here are highlighted in blue; and those no longer present (most of them up in flames in the grand tradition of New England inns) are flaming orange. Since we're still standing, take 25% off of our room rates for the rest of July. Just call us.

Can you stand it?

A little too Patriotic, mayhaps?
A quiet 4th here at RiverWood. All flags flyin'. The one on the left is my dad's memorial (casket) flag. James B. Gleason, Jr., WWII aviator. Dressing right is the one from my grandfather's ceremony. James F. Walsh. He was part of the American Expeditionary Forces in WWI - aka, The Great War; aka "The War to End All Wars" - wishful thinking, I guess.
Only once each year do they fly.

Jasper - One Big Kitty at One Year of Age!

When I was a kid, while riding in the car we'd play a game where you'd score points for spotting animals along the roadside. I think cows earned 1 point, horses 5 each, a wild animal of any sort was worth 10 and so on. Whoever reached 100 points won the game. However, spotting a "kitty in the window" anywhere was worth 100 points, and the game was over. Well...I think spotting a kitty in TWO windows is cause for retiring my number! Ha!

"Apple tree, very pretty, and the apple blossom sweet..."
sorry Trini.

The tree pictured on the left, we're told by local arboristas, is either an Antique or an Heirloom MacIntosh. That, I think means they're not not quite sure what it really is! When the local fauna don't beat us to them, the fruit looks and tastes like a Mac but is crisp like a Granny Smith. Can't wait.

The one to the right is a Crab Apple - does anyone out there remember "Crabby Appleton"? I can't hear crab apple without going there. Does anyone know in what cartoon series he was a character? (I do.)

Getting a Little Personal On Memorial Day

I don't usually do two posts - same subject; same day - but couldn't resist. The sailor receiving the Airman's Medal (he was also awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, among others) is my father, Assistant Machinist Mate James B. Gleason, Jr. USN. He was a waist gunner on the B-24 shown in the engraving. Also shown are ribbons representing his medals. He was stationed in the Philippines during WWII. No "bone spurs" on his ankles! Happy and Healthy Memorial Day.

Susan is convinced that we won't be able to get any kale this fall, so her solution ... a Corona Garden! - complete with solar-powered electric fence to repel deer and dah bears, chicken wire for rodents, and a steel gate to keep me and my brown thumbs away from the budding plants.
