We are grateful they are continuing to update the Transcanyon Waterline beginning next week, but be sure you are prepared! Those hiking Rim to Rim be sure to stock up with adequate water here at Jacob Lake, as several water stops on the trail will be closed from June 4th - 11th. We'll be sure to have the cookies and thick shakes ready too. They always make the trail or the celebration of your accomplishment just a little sweeter. 🍪

Don't be like Vic!

A planned inner canyon water outage is scheduled for June 4–11 to support critical Transcanyon Waterline infrastructure work. During the outage, water will NOT be available at Boat Beach, the Phantom Ranch Delta Restroom, Bright Angel Campground, Cottonwood Campground, and Manzanita Rest Area.

Havasupai Gardens and the 3-Mile and 1.5-Mile resthouses will continue to have water during this outage period.

As temperatures continue to rise this weekend, carrying adequate water is critical. Visitors hiking the North Kaibab Trail should be prepared for limited water availability and are strongly encouraged to carry a water filtration device to treat creek water if needed.

Know before you go, plan ahead, and don't be like Vic!

We are excited for the opening of the North Rim and North Kaibab Trail on May 15th! We can't wait to see our Rim to Rim hiking friends and all those who love the North Rim and her beautiful viewpoints.

As much as we wish we could keep the trail open all year, we recognize that there is necessary repair needed to the TransCanyon Waterline beginning October 15th, as well as trail repair from the potential monsoon effects of the Dragon Bravo Fire throughout the year. We know that making water more accessible and reliable for the Grand Canyon community is the ultimate goal. Here's to a wonderful and safe year. See you all soon!

News Release — North Kaibab Trail Access Changes Begin October 15 for Transcanyon Waterline Project Work

Beginning Oct. 15, 2026, at 11:59 p.m., a section of the North Kaibab Trail in Grand Canyon National Park will close to all public access for critical pipeline rehabilitation work on the Transcanyon Waterline. The closure area will be between Redwall Bridge (2.5 miles north of Manzanita Rest Area) and the northern end of Cottonwood Campground.

This hard closure will remain in place through approximately February 2027. There are no alternative routes or detours available through this section of trail. This closure is necessary to ensure the safety of both visitors and work crews operating in a narrow corridor with heavy equipment and active construction.

Cottonwood Campground will remain open during this closure period. Backcountry reservations are available through Recreation.gov. Water at Cottonwood Campground will be turned off beginning Oct. 15, and backcountry users should plan to treat creek water.

The remainder of the North Kaibab Trail is expected to remain open and accessible during this time. The trail will be open from the North Kaibab Trailhead south to Redwall Bridge, as well as from Phantom Ranch north to the northern end of Cottonwood Campground.

News Release—Grand Canyon National Park Announces 2026 North Rim Summer Season Access

Grand Canyon National Park will welcome visitors back to the North Rim for the 2026 summer season beginning at 6 a.m. on Friday, May 15, 2026.

All paved roadways within the park will reopen, including Highway 67, Cape Royal, and Point Imperial Roads. These scenic drives provide access to many of the North Rim’s iconic viewpoints, including Point Imperial, Cape Royal, Roosevelt Point, Walhalla Overlook, and Angels Window.

The entire North Kaibab Trail will reopen May 15 for foot traffic only; stock use is suspended for the season. Trail maintenance and rehabilitation work will continue along the North Kaibab Trail throughout the 2026 season. Hikers should anticipate temporary trail closures or delays while crews continue to repair the trail. Post-fire hazards and weather events may also result in additional closures.

Backcountry users will also see some services return this year. Cottonwood Campground will reopen on May 15, providing an overnight option for hikers traveling along the North Kaibab Trail. Backcountry use will be permitted in most areas of the North Rim.

The North Rim Campground is expected to reopen for tent and RV camping (no hookups) once conditions allow. Campsite reservations will be made available on recreation.gov once an opening date is established.

For those seeking overnight accommodations, lodging is available outside the park. Overnight lodging will not be available on the North Rim in the park during the 2026 season. The nearest fuel, food, and water is available at the North Rim Country Store and at Jacob Lake.
