The Glow Worms Are Back!

Did you know that right here in Tennessee, you can witness one of nature’s rarest light shows? Deep inside Hazard Cave, tiny glowing creatures light up the darkness like a starry sky.

These “glow worms” are actually the larvae of the fungus gnat Orfelia fultoni, the only bioluminescent fly species in North America 🌌

Join us for a short, easy hike, about a 1/2-mile round trip, to Hazard Cave, where you will get to see this incredible natural phenomenon up close. You must be on a ranger-led hike and reserve a spot to attend. It is a perfect adventure for families, nature lovers, and anyone looking for something truly unique.

Hikes are offered on weekends and select weekdays.
Reserve your spot here: https://tnstateparks.com/parks/pickett?fbclid=IwVERDUARmHo5leHRuA2FlbQIxMQBzcnRjBmFwcF9pZAo2NjI4NTY4Mzc5AAEenvN4gHCWAqhQqV6p7r6KTq6qTRTeFkebtQYmTVrXNOk0ilSA3UIUX20iTbU_aem_VyQ4E4zfnkZGY-bwj8G2Vw

Spots fill quickly, so do not miss your chance to see them!

HEADS UP! 🌒 The moon will turn RED next Tuesday morning on March 3rd across the United States from a Total Lunar Eclipse! The times below are the best viewing opportunities per time zone (weather permitting). For the East Coast, there will even be a rare "Selenelion"...which is when both the sun and the eclipsed moon are visible simultaneously above the horizon just before sunrise!

Last summer, Big South Fork National River & Recreation Area staff completed rehabilitation of six wooden trail structures, including construction ladders, footbridges, staircases, and landings along Twin Arches Loop Trail. All structures have been reconditioned to meet National Park Service standards for safety and structural integrity.

Twin Arches Loop Trail, a popular hiking destination, now features restored infrastructure that will reduce deferred maintenance and future maintenance cost.

“The successful completion of this project supports continued safe access to one of the park’s premier backcountry,” said Superintendent Niki Stephanie Nicholas.
