I should have done a 360 video this morning cause behind me, those clouds were looking dark. Either way here is a different yet not, sunrise video.

Good morning and happy Saturday!

Elegant and more svelte than a Great Blue Heron, Great Egrets are an impressively large bird in their own right. They stand well over 3 feet tall with a wingspan reaching over 5 feet!

You’ll often see this bird along lakeshores and in wetlands like swamps and marshes, either motionless or walking very slowly, while looking for its next meal. As they walk in the shallows, their webbed feet probe the bottom and stir up their main food: fish, amphibians such as frogs and invertebrates such as crayfish and dragonflies. They also eat reptiles and even other birds and small mammals, which they then grab with lightning-fast reflexes.

In the late 19th century, these birds were hunted to near extinction for their plumes (long, delicate feathers on the crown, shoulders, and back of a bird), which were then used in the fashion industry. Through the banning of plume-hunting and conservation efforts like the Migratory Bird Treaty Act of 1918 and the Audubon Society, along with habitat restoration and individual activists, they have made a remarkable recovery.

Partners in Flight, an initiative that focuses on the conservation of landbirds in the Americas, estimates that there are 9.5 million Great Egrets around today!

A songbird slightly smaller than a robin, the Eastern Kingbird is found throughout the United States. They’re black above and white below, with the head and beak darker than the wings and back and their tail sporting a white tip. Perched in open areas, they fly with very shallow wingbeats, and their call a metallic sputtering sound. Though they mostly eat insects, they do enjoy fruits and berries at their wintering grounds in South America. 🐦
