North Arkansas College and Buffalo National River Partners to Host Spring Wildflower Walk at Lost Valley North Arkansas College and Buffalo National River Partners invite the public to experience the beauty of spring in the Ozarks during a guided wildflower walk at Lost Valley Trail in Buffalo National River.

The walk will be led by Roger Brown, a Teaching Assistant at North Arkansas College, who will guide participants along the Lost Valley trail to observe and learn about native spring-flowering plants. Brown is an emerging young botanist with a strong interest in the flora of the Ozark Interior Highlands. Roger is a talented educator and enjoys sharing his knowledge of the native plant communities found throughout the region.

Spring is one of the best times to explore the Buffalo National River area, when woodland wildflowers bloom across the forest floor. During the walk, participants will learn how to identify common native flower species and gain insight into the ecological importance of these plants in the Ozark forest ecosystem in a way that is unique to Lost Valley.

The hike is considered easy to moderate, and the pace will be relaxed to allow time for discussion and exploration of the many natural discoveries encountered along the trail.

Hey EVERYONE!!!

Woo Hoo!! Yes, it's July, but it's been cool and wet. If this holds, we have the most amazing chance for a STUNNING Fall!!

"AccuWeather is forecasting the perfect conditions for vibrant fall foliage this year in all or part of 20 states: Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois, Missouri, Nebraska, Kansas, South Dakota, Arkansas, Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, Kentucky, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, and Vermont."

You might think about booking cabins and retreats NOW!

And my advice is always; there is not a 'peak' in Newton County, there are just different species firing off whenever they feel like it!

Unlike, say, aspens who are particularly picky and tend to follow the leader, our oaks, maples, sweet gum, hickory, sumacs, dogwoods, etc., all 'do their own thing.' We also have a range of altitudes so higher trees go first and the lower elevation trees follow.

Which means we have long-duration color!!

So for Arkansas and Newton County leaf-peeping, expect late September to early November! I'd suggest you join the Facebook group: Fall Foliage in Newton County, Arkansas for the absolute latest information! You can scroll through pictures from past falls (except 2024, we don't talk about that) for ideas!

Anyhoo, just a reminder that Fall IS coming and now is a good time to make reservations for cabins and retreats NOW!

Until then, happy Summer!!

The quote came from this article:

As for the rest of the country, forecasters are predicting ‘dull’ to ‘typical’ colors.

A Word from the Owners

We stopped by the cabin this weekend to do a little spring refresh—and thank goodness it wasn’t booked. A well-meaning but wildly enthusiastic festival across the river had the Ozarks echoing with music… for five straight nights. Every critter for miles is now exhausted from staying up way past midnight.

The event was hosted by a neighbor, and while we do love our community, there’s a fine line between festive and a full-volume concert that seeps into homes miles away.

Note to concert organizers: If you're going to hold the entire county hostage with music, could you at least make it enjoyable? That playlist should probably be forwarded to Guantanamo Bay.

A proposed noise ordinance is now in the works to help keep things peaceful for everyone enjoying the beauty of Newton County—and we’d love your support:

On the bright side: If you had been our guest this weekend, you’d have received a refund—because restful getaways are kind of our thing. So hey, silver lining!

Thanks for loving this wild and wonderful corner of Arkansas as much as we do. And if you visit this week, please extend a little grace—we’re all a bit sleep-deprived, still smiling… just looking a lot like raccoons with these rings under our eyes. 🦝

REMINDER!

It's that time before we adjust our rates for summer AND before everyone starts booking their travel. Typically our calendar will go nuts around the end of April so you have some time!

But if you're considering a visit this year, now is the time to book!

And we'd love to see you in 2025!
