The Location:
Sunset Cabins are located in midcoast Maine about 6 miles off Route 1. The lake area is 4,625 acres with a maximum depth of 110 feet. It is home to large and small mouth bass, yellow and white perch, lake trout, landlocked salmon, smelt, pickerel, alewife and eel. Every Spring alewifes climb up the famous alewife ladder into the lake to spawn. The lake's watershed is home to loons, o
sprey, bald eagless and small mammals. We spotted a moose crossing our parking lot to swim across the lake one day! Boothbay, Camden and the Owls Head and Pemaquid Point lighthouses are nearby. Lobster wharfs are a short drive away where you can enjoy freshly steamed Maine lobster. The Cabins:
The cabins are original Maine Camps from the 1930's-- the heyday of sporting camps and fishing lodges. They are situated on the eastern shore of Damariscotta Lake, secluded from tourist traps. They blend well among the setting of old pines and white birches. We can accomodate up to 24 people in 6 cabins. The original structures have been converted into housekeeping cottages with present-day amenities while retaining their rustic charm. They have fully equipped kitchens, living/dining areas with wood-burning stoves, up to three bedrooms and full baths with claw-footed bathtubs and a large outdoor shower. Large screened-in porches with picnic tables and lounging chairs overlook the Great Bay of the16-mile long lake and the western horizon with its spectacular sunsets over wooded hills. Amenities:
The cabins are fully furnished and kitchens are well equipped. You bring your own towels and linen, extra blankets (one blanket and pillow per bed is provided) radio, games, books, water toys, fishing rods, flashlight, cameras, and binoculars. Bed linens are available for rental at $5.00 per set and towels are also available at $5.00 per person. Our boats are free of charge - to be shared by all guests during your stay.
