I urge everyone to become engaged in the water issues in Florida. Today the Army Corps of Engineers started discharges east through the St Lucie waterway to Stuart and west through the Caloosahatchi river to Ft Myers … this is devastating for the environment. This water is polluted and toxic. We in Stuart will receive 1800 cubic feet per second and Ft Myers will get 4000 cubic feet per second. A cubic foot is 8 gallons of water. Believe when I say ITS A LOT OF WATER …. It will reduce salinity and darken the water which is harmful to seagrass and marine life. It’s is devastating. Please look into Captains For Clean Water for further information as they will have their finger on the pulse of this issue pretty much on a daily basis. Proper management of Lake Okeechobee must be adhered to … the sugar companies and other agricultural interests south of the lake are mostl to blame for this travesty. Their lobbyists are a well oiled machine and they have huge dollars to fight the people and government regarding this issue. They get good water and we get bad water. It’s time for this to stop. Become engaged and let your voices be heard. Today is a bad day for our beloved St Lucie River … Caloosatchie river and Indian River Lagoon ….
