Thank you all so much for your warm and wonderful comments. We are overwhelmed and humbled by your kindness. 🥰
Nearly 20 years ago, Chris and I had a dream we’d open a bed and breakfast together, as a second occupation in life. What started out that way turned out to be a decades long vocation together. Times that were filled with joy, fulfillment, laughter and yes, hard work, drudgery and aggravation but through it all, we were able to accomplish our goal of helping people to see the joy we found in the town, while trying to make a living at the same time.
It wasn't easy to live and work together in the same building all those years but we did it, keeping a sense of humor through it all, which managed to make us even closer. And yes, the rewards outnumbered the challenges manyfold.
The amount of work involved with running the rooms as well as maintaining the building seemed easier just a few short years ago and the winters here in the shade of two mountains had us longing more for the warmth of the Florida sun. We've always prided ourselves on being good innkeepers and the process and logistics of finding someone who could run things in our absence has always behooved us and as our jaunts to the sun coast became more frequent, just leaving the building on its own with no one as caretaker was not really an option.
While it's bittersweet, we came to the realization it was time to take the next leap in life.
It has been an honor for us to know we and the Times House had become part of so many guests’ memories, as they celebrated milestone birthdays, anniversaries, engagements, honeymoons, babymoons and we were even humbled to serve as witnesses as guests exchanged their wedding vows to each other last year. Looking through our guest books, the names of so many friends we’ve made along the way stand out.
Thanks to everyone who has helped make this dream of ours a reality, encouraged and supported us. I started to name all of those that helped us but there have been so many, we don’t want to miss anyone, lest we hurt someone’s feelings, as they’ve all meant so much to us.
For Christmas 2003, I gave Chris a local history book, with the inscription “Maybe Someday.” We are forever grateful to all of you for being a part of those somedays and this chapter of our lives, which we’ll always treasure. How lucky are we!
