KIGHT’S ECLIPSE CAMPING
What you should bring: Extra Water, food and necessities. Remember you will be in a remote area with limited access to water, food, necessities and fuel.
August will be very warm and very dry this side of the Cascades-- -sunblock and hats strongly recommended. Please note that the 3 hours during the eclipse the weather can change to COLD temporarily.
Please emphasize Eclipse Viewing Safety with your kids-- -yes, even the teenagers. Until the sun is totally eclipsed looking at it is the same as staring at the sun anytime. Eclipse glasses will be available for sale at Kight's camping.
WATER: Delicious drinking well water is available around the property. Please conserve; (you should arrive with your water tanks full). No H20, power or septic hook-ups.
PARKING; parking is limited to one vehicle per camp site. Addition parking will be provided for a small fee.
RESTROOMS: Port-a-potties & hand washing stations are available throughout the property. Sorry, No bathing facilities.
GARBAGE AND RECYCLING provided.
EATS: Starting Friday morning August 18th thru Monday night August 21st Providing coffee/tea, hot chocolate and home made breakfast muffins, hard boiled eggs, lunch and dinner; hot dogs, home made elk chili, pasta salads and of course water, cold drinks, ice cream bars, home made desserts and snacks. We continually hope to expand on this menu as resources become available. A menu with pricing will be posted. BBQ’s ok, must be gas only, no briquettes. Alcohol okay.
CELL PHONES: We have cell phone charging stations. T-Mobile & Sprint DO NOT WORK WELL in our rural area. Verizon & ATT & US Cellular do.
ENTERTAINMENT: Of course the Eclipse-- -especially Totality-- - will be the peak experience during your visit. In addition at the campground we'll have Badminton, Corn Hole tossing games, DVD & puzzle rentals. We will post the local entertainment that is happening in town; 2 miles from us.
SHOPPING: We're offering eclipse safety glasses, Eclipse T-shirts, craft items, vintage items, jewelry and more right here at the campground.
The John Day Area provides lots of opportunities for hiking, canoeing/kayaking, and general tourism around town, the Fossil Beds, and more. Fossil beds and Painted Hills will be closed day of Eclipse.
Smoking: Smoking okay only in vehicle or RV. This is the height of fire season. Grant County has a county wide ban on all fires!
