September 25, 2020 UPDATE: The Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest is currently open but the Inyo National Forest remains closed until at least September 30th. All towns, businesses and private RV parks in Mono County that are not on forest land are currently open. No fires are permitted anywhere in Mono County.
What does this mean? You can hike, fish, hunt and recreate on Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest lands (generally areas north of Conway Summit, Bridgeport, Sonora Pass, Walker and Coleville.) but those same recreational activities are not permitted on Inyo National Forest lands. (Generally all other locations in Mono County) Still confused? Give us a call or write you question below. Inyo National Forest Only: Some special use permit businesses are now open in the Inyo National Forest with limited services including lodging, food services, and essential public services (i.e. groceries, gas station) The permitted resorts and marinas within the Lakes Basin & Redβs Meadow areas will be excluded from this exemption opportunity due to the extreme fire danger in the local area. - Any operations associated with recreation on Inyo National Forest System Lands cannot occur by employees or patrons (i.e. hunting, fishing, hiking, biking, etc.) - Marinas may not offer boat rental services or allow for private boat launching from their facilities - All operations that allow for, encourage, or promote recreational opportunities on closed Inyo National Forest System Lands may not occur or be promoted (i.e. hunting, fishing, hiking, biking, etc.) - Local and state COVID-19 guidelines are still in place.
