We have exciting news to share about Fern Creek Lodge and for its new bright future.  For the family of Jim Coats (Owners of the Lodge for many years), we now bid our fond farewell to our wonderful customers. To all the people who have enjoyed the Lodge’s resources over our years of operation, we thank you for your business, friendship, and loyalty.

While the Lodge business to the public ends, the Lodge will soon rise as a retreat for our Nation’s warriors. The buyer of the Lodge is Disabled Sports Eastern Sierra (DSES).

DSES has exciting plans to transform the Lodge to serve as its new National Wounded Warrior Center.

"DSES and the Eastern Sierra have an amazing opportunity to help these wounded warriors learn, heal, and thrive.” (Kathy Copeland, Founding Director).

Jim Coats had served as a Sergeant in the USMC and everyone who knew him knew well of his deep pride in our veterans. Coincidentally, he always supported the DSES over the years, loving its mission for the wounded warriors.

The family of Jim Coats know with absolute certainty that Jim/Dad/Grandpa would be so happy to know his Lodge survives as a unique, dedicated service for our wounded warriors and for their loved ones.  It is for him a great ending, and for his family, a sincere farewell.

Thank you all!

-Shanna, Jon & Jill

🚧 INYO NATIONAL FOREST – TEMPORARY CLOSURE IN EFFECT 8/31-9/17 🚧

USDA Forest Service Temporarily Closing All California National Forests for Public Safety (See Regional Order No. 21-07: Emergency Forest Closure and Press Release

To better provide public and firefighter safety due to extreme fire conditions throughout California, and strained firefighting resources throughout the country, the USDA Forest Service Pacific Southwest Region is announcing a TEMPORARY CLOSURE of all National Forests in the Region. This closure will be effective at August 31, 2021 at 11:59 p.m. through September 17, 2021 at 11:59 p.m.

KNOW BEFORE YOU GO

Plans change. While we understand the recent forest closures are obviously disappointing, safety is the priority. Please understand that the temporary forest closures mean no access; including hiking, biking, climbing, fishing, parking, camping. We stand supportive of our neighbors to the north, directly affected by the fires. We’ll be ready, when the time is right, to welcome you; our guests, friends and family to our small town with a big backyard. Stay Strong!

Please Adjust Your Plans If you have hotel reservations, please take the time to check on Covid regulations, highway conditions, smoke forecast, closures, business hours and safety guidelines. Feel free to give us a call if we can help in your planning process.

Fishing Alternatives: The fishing along the valley floor, below forest service line is open. For example, Pleasant Valley Reservoir, the Lower Owens River, and lower creeks including Taboose, Tinemaha, and Baker Creeks, plus the bass fisheries.
