This Hawaiian History Month, we're looking to our culturally rich surroundings to learn more about the history they hold.

The 1,300 acres known today as Turtle Bay, and traditionally as Kuilima, encompass seven ahupuaʻa, a Hawaiian system of land division designed to maintain balance between people and the natural environment. Extending from mauka to makai, each ahupuaʻa provided communities with access to the resources needed to sustain life, from fresh water and fertile soil to the abundance of the ocean.

Ted Suter, The Ritz-Carlton Oʻahu, Turtle Bay's Director of Training, shares more about Kuilima and the centuries-old approach to caring for and living in harmony with the nature that surrounds us. He also explores how agriculture remains part of Kuilima’s story today through our 468-acre Kuilima Farm.

Stay tuned throughout the month as we share more about this vibrant place and our privilege of serving as its stewards.
