Curtains, then the shower, then something cold on the lanai before anyone else is up.

That is the whole morning. You do not have to do anything with it.

What the listing photos do not show you.

You can walk into town, and almost everyone does. But the driveway has no lights at the entrance, so if you are arriving after dark, go slow — people drive straight past it.

There is some road noise. We are close to a main road and a guest told us honestly that they had not expected it. Most people stop hearing it by the second day. If you sleep lightly, ask me which suite is quieter.

The critters get loud at night. It is Hawaii. Bring earplugs if that is you.

Rent a car anyway. You can walk to dinner. You cannot walk to the volcano.

I would rather you find all of this out now than on day one.

"Where are they staying...?"

Black sand, palms in a row, and a tide pool you can actually get into.

It is a few minute drive from the door and most people never make it here, because it is not on the list anyone hands you at the airport.

Four separate couples have spent their honeymoon here now. We did not plan for that and we did not advertise for it.

We think it is the quiet. You can walk to dinner and be back before it gets dark, and then there is nobody to talk to but each other.

Nobody expects this room.

You come up the stairs expecting a condo and you get a wall of doors, a ceiling that goes all the way up, and enough floor that four people are not in each other's way.

This is the one that books out first, and it books out early.

This is the lanai, most evenings. We do not do anything special — we stop whatever we are doing and stand there until it is over.

West facing, which is the whole reason the Kona side is worth it.
