*Check comments for Cowlitz County DEM clarification post that was sent out around 12:30 P.M. They expect the river level in Kelso to remain fairly flat. Upstream could see larger increases*

The Cowlitz River could rise even more starting this afternoon. According to a release from Lewis County Fire District #2, Tacoma Power will be increasing discharge from the Mayfield Dam. They plan to increase the discharge from 14,600 cubic feet per second to 23,000 cubic feet per second, or even higher near midnight. They estimate the water may rise by about 2.5 feet. Be advised that this could cause higher risks of flooding in low-lying areas along the river.

It's that time of year again! Kalama officers will be on patrol Wednesday, 7/16/25, starting at 2pm and will be on the lookout for kids on their best behavior. When you hear that famous ice cream truck jingle, come get some free ice cream!! Officers will be in marked Kalama Police cars playing your song, so DON'T approach strangers. Drop us a street name in the comments (no addresses please) of where you'll be waiting for us and we will do our best to hit every place listed. We might only have time for one pass, so be on your toes between 2-4pm. SEE YOU WEDNESDAY 7/16/25!!
