Happy King Kamehameha Day! Today marks the 150th anniversary of our state holiday honoring Kamehameha the Great. This revered monarch is most known for uniting the Hawaiian Islands under one rule in the late 1700s. At age 14, he is said to have singlehandedly moved the Naha Stone—a rectangular boulder weighing about 3.5 tons. Legend foretold that whoever possessed the strength to move this sacred stone would unite the Hawaiian Islands.

On this day we honor and celebrate King Kamehameha I for all that he’s done for the Hawaiian people ❤️ His strength and commitment to Hawaiʻi will always be remembered! Happy King Kamehameha Day!
