We have had some fun astrological events the last few days here at the RV Corral. Here’s a couple pictures of the Aurora Borealis over Kanab along with a couple pictures of the Comet Tsuchinshan-ATLAS, also called C/2023 A3 and Comet A3 over the RV Corral.
The last image I call the cloud witch riding her broom over Kanab.

Water Restriction FAQ (Updated 2024 08 30)

--------------------------------------

News Release—Grand Canyon National Park to Temporarily Close Overnight Hotel Accommodations Beginning August 29

Grand Canyon National Park will implement Stage 4 water restrictions on the South Rim starting the afternoon of Thursday, August 29, due to a series of four significant breaks in the 12½ mile-long Transcanyon Waterline that supplies water from the canyon for use in the park. Since July 8, the park has faced challenges with water supply, and currently, no water is being pumped to either the South or North Rim.

In response, the following measures will be enacted for the South Rim for the foreseeable future:

🏨Overnight Guest Lodging: Effective Thursday, August 29, all park concessions will halt overnight accommodations. This includes hotel facilities operated by Xanterra, such as El Tovar, Bright Angel Lodge, Maswik Lodge, and Phantom Ranch, as well as Delaware North’s Yavapai Lodge and Trailer Village. Overnight hotel accommodations located outside the park in the town of Tusayan will not be impacted by changes in park operations.

⛺Dry Camping: Only dry camping will be permitted. Spigot access at campgrounds on the South Rim will be turned off, though faucets in bathrooms will remain operational. Water spigot access will be available at the Mather Campground check-in kiosk.

🚫NO FIRES will be allowed on the South Rim and inner canyon areas. Fire restrictions prohibit all wood burning and charcoal fires, including campfires, warming fires, and charcoal barbeques. For more information on fire restrictions, visit the park’s Fire Information webpage.

🍔Operational Services: The park will remain open for day use. All South Rim food and beverage services, the Grand Canyon Clinic, and the Post Office will remain open. The North Rim's Grand Canyon Lodge, and other North Rim visitor services such as the Campground, will remain open.

These measures are crucial for ensuring the safety and sustainability of water resources. The goal is to restore full operational status for overnight guests on the South Rim as quickly as possible.

We just completed another big upgrade to our park. We installed 4 brand new Speed Queen washers along with 4 brand new gas dryers.
With more full time RVers, the load in the laundry room had increased so we upgraded to help people accomplish their laundry chores easier.
Thanks to all our great guests for staying with us each year.

We are excited to announce that we are open for 2023. We spent this last winter working hard on improvements and have totally remodeled our bathrooms. Here's a list of the changes. New shower stalls and fixtures, new granite sinks and fixtures, new wainscot, new partitions for the toilets, new shower curtains, new paint, new mirrors, new shelves and hooks in the shower stalls, new touchless paper towel dispensers, and new décor. We hope on your next visit you can enjoy the upgrades.
We had a nice winter with lots of snow, for which we are very thankful for the water! We had a little more snow added just before opening day to give us a beautiful look.
We look forward to seeing you. You can book anytime using our new online booking tools at kanabrvcorral.com where you can see available sites, pricing and pictures which I will also be updating.

Many people come to our park to stay whilst going to the Wave Lottery every morning. For those who are curious, I wanted to share what it looked like when I was able to hike the wave earlier this week.

This is an adventure that takes some preparation and planning, I would not advise trying this hike as a last minute excited event. Be ready and safe. I carried 2.5 gallons of water since I was hauling for both myself and Denali our Black Lab. Since he is black I was also very careful to give him plenty of time in the shade. The day was forecast at 75f as a high when we hiked. It felt hotter than that on the trail due to being on sand and rock which reflect the heat right back at you.

The hike took us about 6 hours in total in and out (including the time at the wave taking pictures). My GPS shows we went a little over 10 miles with wandering and exploring. I'm guessing you couldn't do the hike without at least going 9 miles, and they are difficult miles, zig zags over rocks and various obstacles, and long sections walking on an angle (think walking on a roof) and then the sand, deep sand that slows you down.

The result is spectacular pictures but you pay the toll in effort to earn them.

We have been working on several upgrades to the park this spring. We have a new play set with dual swings and slides for kids in the area between the dog park and the common area with the smokeless fire pit.

We have realigned the doggie park making it larger, with a new entrance and as of this week all new sod. Your fur babies will really enjoy it.

Newly painted trim in the laundry-shower building has it looking great too. Thanks to all our great guests out enjoying travel this year. We appreciate you.

If you plan to visit us this year make your reservations as soon as you have dates set as we are booking up earlier than usual.
