Resource alert! On May 13th and 21st, DCCCA's virtual Post Adoption Support Group will be exploring Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) concepts for caregivers. TBRI helps caregivers learn how a child's history impacts their development and behaviors, and the group will discuss ways to put its concepts into practice. To join this great support group, simply follow the zoom links in the comments section to join either session!

Our friends over at Joy Meadows have a variety of awesome camp opportunties coming up! Summer camps at Joy Meadows provide children with new, fun experiences in an environment that is predictable, relational, and trauma-informed. Each camp is intentionally designed to support emotional regulation, confidence, and connection—while giving children space to simply be kids.

Children are matched with a trusted adult camp counselor, and a 4:1 child-to-counselor ratio ensures individualized care and meaningful connection. Caregivers receive day respite while knowing their child is safe and supported.

This past weekend, we had the privilege of gathering with families from across Kansas at the beautiful Hollis Renewal Center for our K-PARC retreat weekend centered around the theme of Marathon Parenting.

Together, we spent time reflecting on the reality that parenting children impacted by trauma, foster care, and adoption is not a sprint---it's a long journey that requires endurance, connection, support, regulation, and grace for both ourselves and our children. Families engaged in meaningful conversations, hands-on activities, moments of laughter, and opportunities to connect with others who truly understand the journey.

A special thank you to Deana Lesher from Pediatric Connections for joining us as our guest speaker and sharing her knowledge, energy, and practical strategies around connection, movement, regulation, and whole-brain learning. Families walked away with not only new tools and ideas, but also encouragement and hope.

We are so grateful to every family who showed up, shared vulnerably, encouraged one another, and leaned into the weekend. Thank you for allowing us to walk alongside you in this marathon. ❤️

Each month, we're highlighting Kansas providers doing great work to support children and families across the state. This May, we're excited to highlight Foster the Cause-Northwest Kansas Chapter!

Foster the Cause-Northwest Kansas Chapter provides faith-based support for foster and adoptive parents in Western Kansas as they step into the lives of children and families touched by foster care and adoption. Foster the Cause-Northwest offers assistance in a variety of ways, including:

-Dedicated mentoring for parents that offers advice, encouragement, and practical support regardless of where parents are in their foster and option journey
-Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) training to equip parents with evidence-based strategies to help create nurturing environments and address challenges that come with caring for children with complex trauma
-Assistance with organizing support networks within parent's local faith-based communities

Foster the Cause-Northwest Kansas Chapter also collaborates with and sponsors the In Faith Conference in Hays, Kansas each Fall. This conference is an annual faith-based conference for foster, adoptive, and kinship parents in Western Kansas.
