On the island we eat fresh garden vegetables and wild Pacific salmon caught right in front of the lodge. The island moose make some of the healthiest steaks you've ever tasted. All without hormones or preservatives. You'll sleep well in the clean crisp air. This all adds up to a healthy life.

It's a hard life but these red foxes are survivors. With an keen sense of hearing it can hear a small mouse under 2 meters of snow with deadly accuracy.

This week we had our first snow in Berlin. I miss the Alaska snow, but not the darkness. About this time of year I always console myself in the fact that on December 21st the days start getting longer.

This time of year I saw the best Aurora I have ever seen. I consider the slow motion fireworks display an incentive to dispel the darkness.
