Check out my tent that I designed at Sandy Pines Campground for an event called Summer Camp. The tent is titled "Plein Air." I want to attract a particular guest. I designed a simple mid-century, modern eclectic nest, not like your normal life, not like the expected Maine vacation. My design is not so much about the furnishings as it is about the experience. The draw is for the curious artist, bud
ding or established, urban or suburban, beginner or professional. I’m hoping that my tent will draw out the artist in all of us. It’s a relaxed setting with a splash of promise, a perfectly comfortable retreat with stacks of paper and canvases, oils and gouache, pencils and pens, Scrabble and cribbage. Create on the coast of Maine where many have found inspiration: Hopper, Bellows, Zorach, Wyeth, Hartley, the list goes on. Stacks of Maine art books are available for inspiration, poetry and prose from great Maine artists like Edna St. Vincent Millay and Stephen King. A page has been set up for Plein Air. Leave your artwork behind for the next group to add to, enjoy, and leap from. Make new friends, trade art, find inspiration, and discover the hidden spots on the coast of Maine. Plein Air will have a modest array of supplies for the Sunday painter, writers, and bon vivants. Bring your own media to satisfy your needs. If you get a foggy Maine day, read about inspired artists stimulated by Maine before you. Sit by the fire. Drink warm tea, pour good bourbon, and dabble at writing poetry. Create a watercolor. Share your experience around the splendor we call Maine. Perhaps you stay alone, with a significant other, or plan a group staying at small tent sites with the big tent as the meeting room for work. I have built it for you to create. Enjoy,
James
