New Art Exhibit at Kent State University Hotel 🎨🐈

Step inside and experience The Cats, a vibrant suite of 17 lithographs created in 1975 by Dutch artist Karel Appel.

A founder of the avant-garde CoBrA movement, Appel embraced intuition, spontaneity and bold expression. Inspired by children’s art, folk art and the subconscious, these works combine energetic mark-making, vivid color and playful feline forms—transforming familiar cats into something imaginative, emotional and wonderfully untamed.

Meet Pearl the Squirrel! 🐿️

Pearl is the hotel’s resident black squirrel and can be found right here in our lobby. She’s a fun little nod to one of Kent’s most unique traditions.

While exploring Kent, you may notice our famous black squirrels throughout town. These little locals have been part of Kent’s story since 1961, when 10 black squirrels were brought here from Ontario, Canada. Over time, they made themselves right at home and became one of Kent’s most beloved symbols.

Today, the black squirrel is celebrated throughout the community and is known as the unofficial mascot of Kent State University. They’re interesting, a little mischievous, and definitely part of what makes Kent so special.

Stop by, say hello to Pearl, and keep an eye out for her friends around town. Just remember, they may be cute, but they do bite! 😊
