K/D Day 6 Update

Even without Sturgeon Bay's report tonight we've surpassed 300 20-pound-plus chinooks weighed through six days of the 37th annual Kewaunee/Door County Salmon Tournament. At this point it seems possible that it'll take a "king" of at least 24 pounds to even crack the top 150. That's an impressive fish in its own right — and big enough to win the K/D 11 years ago, in 2008!

But this year, wow — at least 13 30-pound-plus giants officially on the board, and three others that couldn't be entered (no ticket, or not everyone on the boat with tickets), plus several upper 29s.

Mike Eder weighed this 30.62 at Accurate Marine & Tackle in Kewaunee today. Algoma had a fish just shy of 30 (left the paperwork at BP, sorry; will update tomorrow!), while Linda Jesierski had a 28.26 to Baileys Harbor and Joel Goham a 27.90 on the Island.

After we get Sturgeon Bay's report and add all of the 20-pluses into the database, we'll update with a top 100. Patience appreciated — driving truck tomorrow so that won't be posted until mid- to late afternoon.

A big thank you to the Kewaunee Fire Department for the professionalism and care shown to the tenants of the City Marina, Campground and City as a whole. As a potential tornado was bearing down on the city, the fire department was out ensuring those without shelter had a place to go and be safe. We took shelter at the fire department while the storm passed. Dogs were given water, kids were entertained with fire helmets and everyone felt safe. Excellent communication and response during an emergency. Thanks againđź‘Ť Please share!

This 1979, 32 foot gem pulled into the Kewaunee marina today.
The gentleman is from Pennsylvania and is doing “the loop” solo. He started in May and anticipates he’ll finish in fall.

Big fish are being reported from Washington Island to Kewaunee. Here's another look at the 33-pounder caught over the weekend four miles off shore. It hit a glow spoon on a full core behind a planer board.
