From a buck sighting during a wedding at The Sanctuary to helicopters flying just above the waves on the Fourth of July, Recreation Photography Intern Dallas Agnew found plenty to capture during his summer on Kiawah Island. 📸

Throughout his internship, Dallas joined nature tours, documented recreation events, and explored golf courses and island landscapes in search of wildlife and the everyday moments that make the island so unique.

A special thank you to our Nature & Recreation team for finding a creative way to incorporate Dallas’s talents into our summer internship program. And thank you, Dallas, for sharing your passion and dedication with us. We are grateful to see Kiawah Island through your lens!

Bogey fever! 🕺⛳ This year’s annual Employee Golf Tournament was a swinging, ’70s-themed success!

The evening began with 9 holes of golf, followed by a post-round picnic at Mingo Point, where teams were recognized in categories including Lowest Score, Longest Drive, Best Team Name, and Best Team Costume. Lucky raffle winners also took home a variety of sports and outdoor prizes! 🏆

We’re endlessly grateful for the incredible individuals who make visiting and working on Kiawah Island such a true pleasure. 💚

Join us in welcoming Richard Hummell, Director of Food & Beverage at The Sanctuary!

Richard is a seasoned hospitality executive with more than 15 years of experience leading food and beverage operations at Forbes Five-Star and AAA Five Diamond hotels and resorts. Throughout his career, he has built a reputation for elevating guest experiences and cultivating high-performing culinary teams.

Most recently, Richard served as Director of Food & Beverage at Montage Healdsburg in California’s Wine Country, where he oversaw all dining operations for the Forbes Five-Star resort and residential community. Previously, he held senior leadership positions with Mandarin Oriental, Miami; The Peninsula Chicago; Montage Beverly Hills; and SLS Hotel at Beverly Hills, leading high-profile openings, renovations, and award-winning hospitality programs.

Richard holds a Bachelor of Arts in Business Management from Gordon College.

We are thrilled to welcome Richard to Kiawah Island Golf Resort and look forward to the leadership, expertise, and passion he will bring to The Sanctuary and our guests. Welcome to the team, Richard!

When opportunity inspires innovation. 🇺🇸✨

As part of her summer internship, Recreation Programming Intern Claire Regal was challenged to develop a new addition to The Red, White, and Blue Festival at The Sanctuary. With the Recreation Department already offering a variety of engaging activities, Claire considered how she could bring a fresh perspective to the celebration and add another layer of excitement for younger guests.

Claire brought this vision to life by creating the Festival Adventure Guide & Passport, which each child received at festival check-in along with a mini golf pencil. Throughout the event, children completed activities, checked off challenges, and collected stamps from team members along the way—transforming their festival visit into an interactive adventure and a keepsake to commemorate their Fourth of July on Kiawah Island. 🗺️

Originally from Dalton, Georgia, Claire came to Kiawah Island with a passion for creating memorable moments, and her innovative idea made a lasting impact on our guests. We are grateful for team members like Claire who continue to elevate the guest experience. ❤️
