Aloha.

Mahalo for following my Royal Mauian Condo page. I have really enjoyed working on it.

Unfortunately, I have been diagnosed with a serious medical condition and managing RMC 119 has become too much for me.

After 15 years we made the difficult decision to sell the condo. The new owner is great. He has two other condos in the building and will provide the great vacation experience you have come to expect from us.

For the new owners contact info, please DM me.

Again, Mahalo for your support.

Susan

OCEANFRONT YOGA
Often when Guests visit Maui they feel so good in the salty ocean and gentle breezes that they want to do some healthy activities. In addition to the wonderful waterfront sports available, we have Oceanfront Yoga right next door.
On Sundays and Thursdays at 8am Johanna Waters leads a sixty-minute yoga class on the lawn at Kamaole Nalu at the water’s edge. You need to bring your own yoga mat or a towel. Reservations are required at https://johannawaters.com/reservations/ Cost for a class is $20 in cash or venmo.
The classes look terrific and every visit I swear I am going to try one, but I am on vacation…a bit lazy so maybe next visit. 😊

My ten favorite Kihei Restaurants in no particular order:

1) Paia Fish Market (fish is so fresh)
2) Cafe O'Lei (The papaya salad is fabulous)
3) Fred’s Mexican (especially for breakfast)
4) Maui Coast Hotel – Hanohano (Good Happy Hour)
5) Tommy Bahama (technically Wailea, but great Happy Hour)
6) Cinnamon Roll Place (as the name implies)
7) Monkey Pod Kitchen (Another great Happy Hour)
8) Pita Paradise (Very fresh fish, Mediterranean flair)
9) Cool Cats (Great for a quick burger)
10) Monson (Great views with terrific Indian menu)

OK I can't just do ten....there are too many great places to eat right outside our door!!!

* Coconuts (Delicious and right across the street – (Coconut shrimp is a stand out)
* 808 Bistro / Deli (Lots of great take-out options)

808 General Store at Mana Kai
One of our favorite beach walks is a south across Kamaole Beaches 2 and 3 and then up a small path that goes through a Maui Seabird bird nesting area. You also go past the Kihei boat launch along the beach trail and up to the lawn at Kihei Surfside timeshare across to Mana Kai Resort.
Of course, all good walks have a reward at the end and that is where 808 General Store comes in. A second location for 808 Deli, the General Store is charming and features many of the yummy snacks and drinks as the original.
We usually will get a pre-made salad or panini and sit at the tables overlooking Keawakapu Beach. My favorite treat is their salted caramel pudding – so delicious. It definitely makes our 2mile round trip walk worthwhile.

Recently, a company called, “Travel Awaits”, appeared in my news feed listing the “7 Most Important Features in a Vacation Rental”. I thought it would be fun to see if I agreed and how our condo stacked up against their list. More importantly, I was wondering how people who use vacation rentals regularly agreed and what other features they might consider important.
#1 – Reliable, high-speed Wi-Fi – I have to say with this as the number one most important feature I had to go check out the writer and yes, she is much younger than I am. LOL – while important, it would not be my most important feature. I’m happy to say that Royal Mauian has high-speed internet as part of our HOA dues, so all the units have this feature.
#2 – Fully Equipped Kitchen – Another surprise for me. I think it matters how long you are staying. We will often eat breakfast and sometimes lunch in the condo but often go out for dinner. But sometimes when we are stay two to four weeks, we make a big Costco trip and do a lot of grilling on the rooftop deck. We also cook at home more when our son’s and their friends visit – we save dollars on food so we can do other attractions.
#3 – Washer & Dryer – this one should not have surprised me. I know many of our Guests do all their laundry before they pack to go home, so they can hit the ground running when they arrive. I was never a fan of this – I do laundry at home – not on vacation. But I always like the ability to throw a load of towels through so they are fresh or if we are there for a couple of weeks, nice to wash the linens.
#4 - Outdoor Space – I agree with this one. Why go to Hawaii if you can’t enjoy being outside. Royal Mauian offers lots of options – nestled between two of the nicest beaches on Maui – Kamaole I & II as well as a terrific grassy lawn and the fabulous rooftop deck. We will also use our lanai for a quick breakfast or lunch.
#5 – Parking – Check – we do have free parking. Visiting our son on Oahu I was shocked that the hotel we stayed in charged $54/night for Guests to park their car. That was more than our car rental cost per day! Guests do have to remember to sign in and getting a parking stick or hanging tag and only one car per unit.
#6 – The Basics for Kids – Hmmm the example that was given was a fenced yard – not really an option where we are, but we have a box on the deck that is loaded with sand and beach toys. We also have an entertainment closet n the home that has all types of games and puzzles from age 3 to adult. This could also refer to the fact we offer a Pack n Play.
#7 – Self-Check-in – I agree this is nice – not sure how important in the scheme of things. It does offer lots of flexibility and if you are running late you don’t need to worry about alerting anyone. Also, in our case, if you have given your flight details, we always try to give a complimentary early check-in or late check-out when possible.
A couple of items that did not make the list, which was really surprising to me. Number one for me is Cleanliness. I always read through reviews to be sure anywhere we are staying has not had complaints about how clean it is or that linens or kitchen items are worn and need replacing.
I would have also prioritized a Convenient Location. It’s nice when you can walk to several beaches or just cross the street for a grocery store, boutique or restaurant.
Air conditioning as another item that I find is getting more important on Maui. We installed air conditioning when we did our first remodel when we purchased, but never really used it much. Over the years, Maui seems to be warmer or at least maybe a little ore humid and I find I often use the air conditioning at night to make sleeping for comfortable.
Are there other “Must Have” items that I am missing? What does a fabulous Vacation Rental need?

KAMAOLE BEACHES

Royal Mauian is in the enviable position of being located between Kamaole Beach Parks I & II. Also, just a short walk to Kamaole Beach Park III. This gorgeous stretch of one and one-half miles of sandy beaches have incredible views of Molokini, Kaho’olawe and Lana’I Island.
At any given time, you will see paddleboarders, snorkelers, SCUBA divers, kids building sand castles, people chilling and soaking up the sun. In the early morning you will see swimmers doing laps the length of all three beaches. During various seasons you can watch the whales and turtles from shore.
All three beaches have a terrific combination of facilities. Kamaole I is three acres and has a beautiful shoreline. The waves are usually gentle and can provide a wide variety of beach activities. There is a lifeguard tower, picnic tables and BBQ grills plus a sandlot volleyball court. There are also outdoor showers, a water fountain and one comfort station.
Kamaole II is just over 2 acres and is my “go to beach”. It offers great snorkeling at each end where you will find lava outcroppings. It also has a lifeguard station, picnic tables and BBQ grills. There is one comfort station.
Kamaole III is 10 acres. It’s huge grassy lawn with more than 20 picnic tables and 8 BBQ grills makes it popular with families. It has a lifeguard station and a playground swing set plus one comfort station and two porta-potties.

At the North end of Kamaole I is Charley Young Beach. At the South end of Kam III is Keawakapu. Lots of choices for whatever activities you are wanting to do.

The Empanada Lady Restaurant & Lounge

Speaking with friends and talking about how much we like Caribbean food; they recommended The Empanada Lady in downtown Wailuku. Always eager to try new places on Maui we made a reservation.
The restaurant is beautiful. A gorgeous open-air feel with bougainvillea tumbling all around the tables. It was charming and romantic.
Of course we wanted to try everything, so with four of us we had a lot of opportunity. The Empanada Trio was a delicious appetizer. We tried them all: Picadillo Beef, Adobo Chicken, Sofrito Pork, and Mushroom & Spinach. We also had the Sofrito Batter Cauliflower – it came with a curry dipping sauce and this may have been my favorite dish of the evening.
For dinner Al and I shared the Pernil. This is a slow roasted pork served with chimichurri sauce. It was tender and flavorful. I would highly recommend it.
Our friends shared the Jamaican Coconut Curry with chicken. It was just okay. Not as flavorful as I would have expected. Maybe because the pork was so good it didn’t quite match up. The entrees came with a salad and choice of rice.
The service was outstanding. It was slow the night we visited, but there seemed to be a very brisk take-out business.
Since it is named “The Empanada Lady” I was surprised that empanadas were only offered as an appetizer and not as an entrée. I am excited to go back and have a list of things that I would like to try: Cuban Chicken Fricassee and Chimi Shrimp Tacos. Plus I think the empanadas need a bit more research. 😊

Love it!!
