The Palmwood was founded in 2006. It is my Home. In 2006, Aibnb didn’t exist, Facebook was just recently launched and Zuck was not my Neighbor. Since the founding I have fought off the abuse of Kauai government against local small business owners, specifically owner occupied residents renting a few rooms at most. They scapegoated us as to the reason there isn’t affordable housing, yet the billionaires here own 1 of every 9 acres in this State. We are heavily occupied by the U.S. military. I have had to fight off corruption and pay to play government officials. White Neighbors who were Friends until jealousy sets in and made false reports to the County to have my permit revoked. Hotel lobbyists flooding influence to the lowest denominator County officials to say they can’t survive with Folks wanting alternative accommodations. I pay more taxes than the Marriott or Hyatt or cruise lines. I have fought Monsanto and chemical companies and seed companies, propagandists that want to discredit and villainize me, as small as my voice is. I say all this to point out that these little social media terrorists are quite laughable in context with my wealth of life experiences. I was about to give up on Community here after 20 years of struggle. The 🌀though revealed to me the strength and resilience of our Community. Hawaii is the best place in the world to endure a disaster as we truly are a Village.

I did have emergency spam for times just like this. 🌀A young child helping to support My Parents who worked a lot, I would make dinner for the Family. Fresh steamed rice, a thin piece of defatted spam, cucumber and cabbage pickle and kimchi. We always had Ajinomoto on our table rather than salt, and an upside cup of wasabi.
