Plan to visit and climb the Bodie Island Lighthouse on your next visit!
The lighthouse has only been open for climbing since 2013 after a multi-year restoration. Prior to this time, the interior of the 1872 tower was closed to the public.
Climbing tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for senior citizens (62 or older), children 11 years of age and under, and the disabled. Climb tickets are available on a first come, first served basis and can only be purchased from www.recreation.gov. Tickets go on sale at 7am for that day's climbs only. Tickets may only be purchased on the same day of your intended climb.
For over 150 years, the Bodie Island Lighthouse in the Outer Banks of North Carolina has kept silent watch over the treacherous waters known as the “Graveyard of the Atlantic.”
Standing 164 feet tall, the lighthouse remains an active aid to navigation and still features its original first-order Fresnel lens, whose powerful beam can be seen by vessels up to 19 nautical miles offshore in clear weather.
