Additional history

This photo was taken in 1908 as evidenced by the Hotel Brunswick under construction. The building originally wasn't planned as a hotel at all. It wasn't until construction was nearly finished on the one-story building that plans were drawn up to add a second floor with rooms to rent. Then just before completion the owners opted to expand with a third floor making it the largest building in town. Unsurprisingly as the third floor was being finished the owners again decided to enlarge it with a fourth floor. A shortage of supplies and laborers prevented the last planned expansion from materializing. The building, which had started construction in 1907, was finally completed in 1909. Initially called the Mulligan-Thompson Hotel after the owners it was named Hotel Brunswick just prior to opening in February 1910.

I like this postcard! This is at the corner of Fronte Street (now Andy Devine Avenue/Route 66) and Fourth Street in Kingman, Arizona. The row of buildings that includes he White House Cafe still stand but the facades were heavily modified in the 1930s. The drugstore on the corner opened in 1898 adn the building to day is the El Palacio restaurant.
