Guineas: You either love them or hate them. I love them unless they are destroying my garden, Chris hates them unless they are alerting us of a predator. They are our feathered security system with a flair for dramatics. They patrol, they squawk, and somehow they keep a chunk of the bugs and snakes guessing, plus they bring a lot of personality to the yard. I love watching them glide..run across the yard they look like little feather dusters running around. Our own personal Plumette's wild and free 😍 Do you have a favorite guinea memory? Do you love or hate these farm staple birds?

One of the biggest priorities for us when moving to our land was anything that we grew had to be organic, no pesticides, or any of the cides for that matter. This was all from a health perspective related to our food we consumed. We had no idea how deep this mindset would really go....literally.

This is our soil today. It’s a little tired, compacted in most places eroded away where it's not, and full of potential! So here we are learning to take care of our soil first, we started with gentle animal integration to rebuild organic matter and microbial life, we've rolled out old hay bales in bald spots, the chickens are getting more adventurous with the guineas and turning p**p.... gosh this alone is doing wonders! It’s slow work but if you're interested we’ll show exactly what we’re doing along the way. We had a huge win last year by being able to compost 75% of our garden last year from the compost we made on the farm! Swipe to see our compost 😍 Save this post to follow the transformation.

The weekend line up of never ending tasks. Our goal this year is to do it right the first time so if that means it moves a little slower than I guess a turtle's pace is what it is. We have so much going into our garden prep this year ... and in case your wondering, yes this should've been done months ago. But here we are making it work in what should've been decently cool weather and instead we're being cooked. So pray for us as we melt away and get this garden prepped for my poor peas that need to be transplanted.

Hi! We're Katie and Chris and this is our beginning. Farm life was not in my (Katie) DNA, Chris has a little ranch life experience as a kid but we were not farmers. We loved our city life, checking out our favorite breweries, two-stepping downtown or catching our favorite local band on a random Thursday, Torchy's Tacos...I mean diablo sauce yes please! But here we are almost 6 years later, with of pack of misfit pups, a lot of learning curves, and one big desire for something slower, something with purpose.

Our plans have definitely changed....drastically, since the day we closed on this property, but each day gives us more clarity on what we want this place to become. We'd love to have you join us on this wild ride of learning about soil erosion and the importance of soil health, farm animals and living off your land, the ups and downs and everything in between. Is this a life you're interested in? Are you already on your own journey? Comment where you’re at, we’d love to say hi!
