For 76 years, Lone Tree was a Boy Scouts of America Camp, offering outdoor program to all Scout units and available for the independent use of Scout units and other specialty groups. The Council and Districts also used Lone Tree for Camporees, advancement programs, and training for both youth and adult BSA members. It's location, compact foot print, and layout supported car camping, especially for

families and scouts who were new to camping. The wood stove-heated cabins allowed for winter use of the camp, too.

🌳 We think it's important that the new chapter of Lone Tree's story stands tall in it's own success! This --now the old, former-- page for camp is going to serve as an online memorial for it's recent history as a Scout Camp. We will be making very few updates to this page. 🌳

Dear Friends and Followers,

It is with a heavy heart that we share news that Lone Tree Scout Reservation was sold yesterday. We appreciate that the new owner, former Troop 44 Newbury Scoutmaster Eric Towne will operate a summer camp at Lone Tree, continuing the mission of helping young people grow and mature into responsible young adult citizens. Even more exciting is the possibility to continue to use camp for weekend camping.

Since 1946, Lone Tree has been a home for young people from the northeastern most corner of Massachusetts and from southeastern and seacoast New Hampshire. The original owners of the camp was Lone Tree Council and through successive mergers, our family grew to include scouts from as far west as Dunstable and Concord and as far south as Westwood and Quincy. And of course, we occasionally hosted scouts from throughout New England.

Through 76 years, a half-dozen generations of boys -and eventually girls- came to know and love Lone Tree. Most came from the northeastern corner of Massachusetts or from southeastern and coastal New Hampshire. We surely had guests come to us from throughout New England and beyond, too. Thousands came as campers, spending weeks each summer at camp or for weekends with their unit in the woods and on the shores of Country Pond. There were hundreds of Camp Staff and Arrowmen, too leading and guiding their friends. Adult and youth members alike completed training in camp through Wood Badge, IOLS, NYLT, and Brownsea. It was home to a Venture Crew and the Lone Tree Spirit Foundation. Some made a home here, and we all made memories.

Gather your friends and family round a campfire soon and recall your memories of Lone Tree. Our experiences included formative moments, broad smiles, hearty laughs, stifled giggles, and the occasional tear. Share the names of campsites, the new friends who became best friends... life-long best friends, and mentors who impacted and shaped you. Tell our story; tell it often. And as you go forward on new trails, keep our memory alive just as our friends from Camp Onway did among us in camp.

We will see you on the trail and we will smile when we recognize your Lone Tree Spirit!

It's . Today, otter waste is featured. These aquatic mammals are occasionally seen in Country Pond. A former camp director who used to tend to the otters displayed at a public aquarium, confirmed the description given by NH Fish and Game.

Otter s**t usually contains fish remains, including scales, and vertebrae. The texture is oily and smells fishy. The s**t decomposes as the oil evaporates and ends up with piles of fish scales. Photo: W.Wise
