Recapturing the walking path around our pond has been a long-standing objective. Over time, the mowing has receded, allowing trees to encroach upon the path and surround some benches. Approximately a year ago, Rene was engaged to cut back the vines and tall weeds, with the intention of maintaining the area through bi-annual mowing to control the growth and trimming the limbs. However, when Oakwater requested Pioneer to perform periodic mowing, they declined due to concerns about potential damage to their equipment. Consequently, the area became overgrown, with vegetation reaching knee height or higher. In response, Oakwater rented a self-propelled brush hog from Home Depot, which Andy operated for four hours to clear the path and benches (your COA President at work!) Given the circumstances, it is evident that mowing at least twice a year would be beneficial to maintain the area.

The BOD and residents of Oakwater Resort wish to bid a fond farewell and big thank you to two friendly faces from our clubhouse. JJ will depart the day before Christmas and Christina’s last day will be the day after Christmas.

If you are in the area, we invite you to stop by and give your thanks and say goodbye in person. We wish them much success as they move onto their next chapters!

Another project at Oakwater. Reclamation of walking path around retention pond with the benches. On the east bank (approximately 1/4 mile long), the conservation area vines and heavy growth have gradually expanded onto the bank of the retention pond where there are benches and the more level walking area. Over the years mowing has not kept up with the invading growth. Five years ago the growth was excessive, worsening every year. We have now cut back the growth and will follow up with mowing to restore the walking path and make the benches accessible once again.

The president is actively working. He conducted an inspection and discovered that the aluminum metal baffle designed to prevent trash from flowing into Reedy Creek was detached at one edge, which could have resulted in trash entering the creek. Stainless steel bolts and locking nuts were purchased. With Greg’s assistance they were installed and the issue was resolved.
