Did you know California's oldest zoo is just down the road? 🦁
Sequoia Park Zoo in Eureka has been around since 1907 β€” tucked right next to an old-growth redwood grove, which honestly makes it one of the more unique zoo settings you'll ever visit. It's small, but accredited, and the kind of place where you can actually slow down and take it all in without spending a full day on your feet.
While you're there, the Redwood Sky Walk gives you a whole different perspective on those trees β€” this time from above. Open daily 10 AM–6 PM.
About 1.5 hours south of us, it makes for a great day trip when you're ready to explore a little further down the coast. 🌲

🌲✨ A long time ago, in a redwood forest not so far away…
These are the actual trees that stood in for the Forest Moon of Endor in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi β€” and every May, the region celebrates that legacy in a big way.
The Forest Moon Festival returns May 28–31, 2026, with a packed weekend across Crescent City and beyond. Think costumed characters, a Jedi obstacle course, vendors, live music, and a free outdoor screening of Return of the Jedi under the stars on Friday night. If you've never watched that movie in the actual forest where it was filmed… this is your year.
And if you're already heading up this week, the Seek & Selfie Game is already underway β€” find Star Wars characters posted at businesses around Crescent City through May 30 for a chance to win airline tickets.
We're about 20 minutes from the action. Come stay with us and make a weekend of it. πŸ•οΈ

πŸ₯Ύ For the hikers who want to earn their view.
Damnation Creek Trail is widely considered one of the best coastal hikes in all of California. This ~4-mile round trip descends steeply through ancient old-growth redwoods before spilling out onto a rugged, remote beach that feels like the edge of the world.
The catch β€” and it's a good one β€” is 1,170 feet of elevation loss on the way down. Every foot of it comes back on the return. Plan accordingly.
πŸ“ Del Norte Coast Redwoods State Park β€” about 20 min from Klamath River RV Park
πŸš— Trailhead on the west side of Hwy 101, ~11 miles south of Crescent City. Small dirt pullout β€” easy to miss, watch for it.
⚠️ Rated moderate-to-strenuous | Sturdy footwear required
🐾 No dogs | No restrooms at trailhead
πŸ’‘ Tip: Go at low tide β€” it opens up the beach considerably.

Memorial Day weekend is here β€” and there's no better place to spend it than the redwoods.
Today we pause to honor the men and women who gave everything in service to this country. We are grateful for their sacrifice and proud to celebrate this holiday in a place as beautiful as the one they helped protect.
If you're spending Memorial Day weekend with us β€” welcome. The river is running, the redwoods are standing, and the North Coast is as stunning as ever.
A few spots may still be available if you're thinking about a last-minute getaway. 🌲

🌊 One of the most spectacular views on the Redwood Coast β€” and hardly anyone knows about it.
High Bluff Overlook sits inside Redwood National Park, just a 15-minute detour off Hwy 101. Miles of untouched coastline, sea stacks, crashing waves, and on a clear day β€” views that go forever. Bring a picnic. There are tables, grills, and restrooms right there.
Keep your eyes on the sky β€” eagles and peregrine falcons are regularly spotted riding the air currents along the bluffs. In spring and fall, watch the water for gray whales passing by.

🌊 A piece of history is right down the road from the park.
In December 1964, the Klamath River reached flows of 557,000 cubic feet per second and buried the original town of Klamath under 15 feet of water. The flood β€” called the "Thousand Year Flood" β€” destroyed 98% of the town, including the Douglas Memorial Bridge, a beloved 1926 arch bridge on Hwy 101.
The town was rebuilt on higher ground. The bridge was not.
Its western stub still stands on Klamath Beach Road β€” concrete bear statues and all β€” as a quiet memorial to what was lost. A short drive from camp and absolutely worth the stop.

πŸ–οΈ One of the best-kept secrets on the Redwood Coast β€” and it's minutes from the park.
Hidden Beach is a wild, secluded stretch of dark sand tucked below the coastal bluffs, lined with massive driftwood, tide pools, and boulders β€” with a dramatic rocky island just offshore. Because you have to hike in, it's rarely crowded.
Two easy ways to get there:
πŸ₯Ύ Short route β€” 0.5 mile forested hike. The trailhead is on the west side of Hwy 101, look for the trail sign near the Klamath sign. Easy grade, mostly flat.
🌊 Yurok Loop route β€” 2.25 miles round trip from Lagoon Creek Picnic Area (free parking, restrooms on site). Follow the Coastal Trail south to the Hidden Beach spur. Ocean views the whole way.
A few things to know before you go:
⚠️ No swimming β€” rip currents and sneaker waves make the water dangerous
🐾 No pets on trail
🐻 Wildlife area β€” bears have been spotted on this trail. Make noise as you hike, stay alert, and never approach wildlife
βœ… Open year-round | No permit required
